Description
Rite of Merit for Cognac & Bloody Mary.

Jan 5, 2017
We're in the middle of the drive now. Things have been going smoothly. Both Tokotas seem to be getting along nicely and behaving quite well. At the beginning of the journey Cognac was showing off constantly, trying to impress Mary, but he quickly calmed down once he saw the cattle and realized there was work to do. The weather is getting colder and colder. It's strangely dry for winter- only little left over dregs of snow here and there. I was expecting Mary and Cognac to have to push their way through feet of snow, but we see dried up grass everywhere. It's a little disheartening. We should be getting so much snow it covers our ears... but nothing. I hope that it's not effecting the wildlife. We've seen a few caribou and deer- again, Cognac got quite excited at that- but not much else. Speaking of which, we had a little trouble yesterday with some of the cattle when a massive bull elk came bugling his way out of some trees. Spooked the cattle like crazy. I was proud of the two Toks though. They barely needed any urging when I and the foreman spurred the two after the runaways. Mary is so quick on her feet and responds so well, while Cognac doesn't even really need a handler at all. He's so smart he knows exactly what you need done and moves into the right position perfectly. Only took about ten minutes to get the spooked cows rounded back up with those two. They're really turning into some good working Toks that's for sure. They sure look good out in this environment though. I can tell they're a little cold- what with their shorter fur, but they take to these mountains and valleys like they were born in the wild. It's good to see them out in nature and not just being their showy clean selves back at the ranch. Speaking of cold, it's getting dark now and I'd better go get those two settled down for a freezing night.

One thing I never got to tell you despite having stalked your art for a while, is that I truly, truly love how whenever you do tokota-art, you emphasize the 'horse-aspect' of it, no matter if it's throwing off the rider like a bronco, or through the way you depict the tact. I just, love it ;w;
