The Ballad of The Hunt
By Footybandit

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

Three hounds walk abroad, their sight crisp and clean,
Their hearing echoes sonar, searching far for fat and lean.

One stag tall and husky, pure magesty in its prime,
Grown from toil and vigilance, a true testamant of time.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

One white as snow, one blue like water, the third a mix of both,
The trinity continues onward, the hunt like a vicious oath.

Alces alces, standing knee deep in liquid, his body thick and wide,
Once lanky youth, buds barely showing, now czar, his crown the forest’s pride.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

Snout down, body crouched, a sign from a tracker’s tail,
Lethal teeth are hungry tonight, wanting lives to unveil.

Ignorance in the blood red light, fog drifting to and fro,
For moose and hare, just another night, but alas, it is not so.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

The pinto pauses, tail held high, his duo partners stop to stare,
The tracks and taste of a taiga prince, the three a royal’s nightmare.

One unknowing final drink, the sovereign takes his leave,
Bright orb decending, it is time for sleep, a bed of clover for this midsummer’s eve.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

The scent is strong, the piebald races, his feet silence on the ground,
The others follow, adrenaline pumping, their quarry has been found.

Head raised high, mighty crown a blaze, the king has heard a crack,
Rustling wind? Lovers at hand? Nay, it is the blood thirsty wolf pack.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

Bursting from the bush, the three emerge, saliva dripping from their maw,
The prize is seen - bigger than expected, their bellies thirsting for gore and raw.

The explosion of foliage turns the king on end, long legs never one to linger.
No thought fills his frightened mind but to outrun these death bringers.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

The chase is mighty, the spotted blue leads, his fangs bared white and gleaming,
Down with the king, mauraders advancing, hot breath quick and steaming.

Long live the king! His heart is large- this has not been the first attack.
The strength of those that have gone before are mirrored in his mighty rack.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

Muscles buldging, sinews flexing, the trio gain upon their victim,
A flash of fangs on the near back leg, makes the king turn for they have picked him.

No stagger trips the wounded prince, but his speed is all but spent,
He whirls on the prowlers, his rage now in full as he strives to make them repent.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

Though pursuit has been made, the three are cautious, the king a mighty foe,
His sword is drawn against their daggers, a murderous weapon to the trio.

Eyes wild and raving like a lunatic, royalty has never seen such fury,
A parry here, an angry thrust there, he castigates the savage jury.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

Snow tries to break on the left side, but is bested with a hardy kick,
A yelp of pain and the attacker backs off, the hit forcing him sick.

The king raises his head, satisfaction in his eyes, as the two see their partner fall,
Who are they to offend his magesty?? What addlepates have the gall?

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

Snarls emit from the remaining foes, their lust only increasing,
Water circles to the backside, while the front air is pierced by heaving breathing.

Circling circling, like a wagon wheel, the king surrounded on all sides,
There is no more running, the board is set, oh turning are the tides

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

Triangular eyes sit only a moment on the flesh before their gaze,
A splash from Water on the right side, an attack to the flank lenghtways.

Cousin of Cervida, turns to counter, his antlers flashing with hatred,
But from the front a slash and rip, his grace was mortally baited.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

Jaws locked tight above the life giving vein that bubbled upon their sufferer’s neck,
The deathly bite dealt by the dappled canine proved fatal, blood splattered and flecked.

An unheard cry escaped the king’s open mouth, airstream cut in half,
So ended the mighty male’s life long era, the terrible battle somehow heralded by seraph.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

The fight, once full of electricity and fire, now sank with the knees of the beast,
The piebald wolf, his dinner now settled, opened his jaws and the torment ceased.

Long live the King. Long live the King. Was the great animal’s final sigh,
Not from the dead, nay a drawn out howl, was the winner’s mournful cry.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

From dust thou came, to dust thou shalt return is the call for every being,
No escape from this, though many have tried, life simply short and fleeting.

But the flesh of one gives hope to another, so continues the circle of life,
Live like the king, full and mighty, or so you too shall end in strife.

Blooded Sun, Blooded Sun
There is lust in the sky
Swift feet, run for life
Murder - A sweet good-bye

The stares of the three Tokota's sent chills down my spine after reading the literature, it's so eerie and beautiful. I love how you can almost feel the hunger in their eyes as they move towards the moose. The way the colors bleed down from warm to cold is just gorgeous, the textures that go down with them (especially in the clouds and fog) are just spectacular. This is gorgeous, and your poem just adds to it. Great job!
